Hoodely-Hoo and the Blah, Blah, Blahs

When my girlfriend and I are watching movies that have some pretty far-fetched plot changes in a seemingly realistic story, she often comments on how completely unbelievable it is. I usually counter that by replying, "Suspension of Disbelief, dear". More often than not, this receives a playful, mocking impression of me, waving her hands all about like a kid who's had too much Lik-M-Aid, exclaiming, "Suspension of Hoodely-Hoo! Suspension of Hoodely-Hoo!"

I was thinking about this last night while watching some old Star Trek episodes (TOS) and it occurred to me that the kind of off-the-wall claims present within UFOlogy are not too unlike a B-movie plot that requires a healthy serving of Suspension of Disbelief. Then there are those like myself, shaking there head at the screen mumbling "Like that would ever happen".

Calling UFOs or referring to UFOlogy as 'science fiction' is nothing new, but still, it is depressing that so much of it plays out like an old Buck Rogers episode, and that so many would be willing to stave off reality and common sense for the sake of a few thrills they can cling to in opposition to the monotony that is most of our lives.

The Totally Gay Post

This isn't really about UFOs, EBEs, Abduction, or the Universe, but I really liked this article and wanted to mention is here for my readers. It comes from one of my favorites bloggers, Robert Barrow and has to do with the recent discussion of nixing the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy, and letting gay men and women serve openly.

As some of you are aware, I am an openly gay woman, so this is certainly not an anti-queer piece. Quite the opposite. Here it is for anyone interested:

Can't Shoot Straight
By Robert Barrow

It's way past time for modern military forces to take a tip from ancient armies -- the gay thing was always there. Imagine the countless numbers of gay people who served and died in wars for this country. Why should they be forever invisible and unacknowledged? Thank you for your service, but you don't exist, nope, you were never here, couldn't be, we don't allow those kinds of people into our ranks. Why, it's just not compatible with our religion (our religion?)...

Dear Shirley MacLaine

By the Interstellar Housewife

Dear Shirley MacLaine,

I, um...

Uh...

It's been another one of those days. A lot of time spent sifting through the news and finding fuck all worth mentioning. Well, maybe a few items -- but I'm still formulating my opinions.

I did come across an older Larry King episode in which Shirley MacLaine appeared alongside James Fox and some of the military personnel that he has interviewed for Out of the Blue and I Know What I Saw. Honestly, to say Shirley was alongside these guys is not quite right. She appeared on the same show as they did, but Shirley was interviewed in a separate private interview, which appears in the middle of the show and then cuts back to the military guys. Why? Maybe Shirley couldn't make it on the same day. Maybe she refused to put herself in a possibly argumentative or confrontational situation. Or maybe she didn't want to get boy-cooties. Who can say? This may have been (and probably was) addressed before, but I'm too lazy to Google it right now.

Former U.S. Military Personnel Discuss UFOs

Former U.S. Military Personnel to Discuss UFO Incursions at Nuclear Weapons Sites at the National Press Club

Former U.S. Air Force Captain Robert Salas and UFO-Nukes Connection researcher Robert Hastings are currently organizing a press conference to be held at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. in the fall of 2010. At least a dozen former or retired U.S. military personnel who witnessed one or more UFO incursions at U.S. nuclear weapons sites will participate and discuss their experiences.

Shhhhhh! *Cough* UFO Bases are Near! *Cough*

Well, this is certainly something. Apparently Oregon isn't just home to Lesbians and Hippies, but also secret underground UFO bases!

According to data found here, the U.S. is home to a number of secret underground bases. And while I think this is probably true to some extent, I am highly skeptical on the numbers and purposes of said bases.

Anyway, here you go, sister (and brother) Oregonians:

OREGON

1. Cave Junction, Oregon
Function: Suspected Underground UFO Base
Levels: At least one
Notes: Suspected location is in or near Hope Mountain. Near Applegate Lake, Oregon, just over into California. Multiple shafts, access areas to over 1500 feet depth. Built using abandoned mine with over 36 known miles of tunnels, shafts.

2. Crater Lake, Oregon
Tunnels: possible to Cave Junction

3. Klamath Falls, Oregon

4. Wimer, Oregon (Ashland Mt. area)
Function: Underground Chemical Storage
Levels: At least one

This line on the linked page made me giggle:

"This is a list of known or suspected U.S. Underground Bases, the purpose of each (hey, I'm just passing on the reports...), how they're set up and any other info known about them."

Lecture to focus on UFO and Military Concerns

Lecture at UNCW will focus on military concerns about UFOs

At a nuclear missile launch site in North Dakota, a guard spots a mysterious bright light hovering over the location of each rocket silo.

Below ground, officers on duty notice their missiles start to activate one by one.

In the launch capsule, an officer orders emergency procedures when he sees every bomb targeted by the intruder prepare to fire.

UFO researcher Robert Hastings has recorded this and other testimony from retired U.S. military personnel who worked at nuclear facilities over the past four decades.

Military Chases UFO after Mysterious Crash

Military Craft Chases UFO South of Mysterious Crash

Two days after police in Eureka, California were flooded with calls from locals who claim to have seen a UFO crash in the mountains, sightings have become increasingly dramatic in southern California, finally climaxing when on the fifteenth, two separate reports were filed to MUFON independently, both detailing a chillingly similar encounter between an enormous gunmetal grey cigar shaped UFO being chased by a helicopter as it moved West.

That Whole Ecuador UFO Thing

I wasn't going to touch this, but then I heard - or read, rather - the translation. Read what is said about the U.S. confirming that extraterrestrial UFOs exist:

Of course, this proves nothing to most Americans -- that would most likely require our own government addressing it (which would be nice).
